Stupid programming errors ·

Dammed PHP. Apparently when retrieving an integer from a database and then doing some conversions on it via bitmasking you must put the (float) in front of it to explicitly type the variable as a float. Sadly, I spent 3 hours trying to figure why my code 1/2 worked until I just tried this. Uggh..

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

Oh well, so on funnier news, I was speaking to a coworker trying to describe UNIX (to a non-techie, I know) and why we use Solaris here. Solaris is a flavor of UNIX and we use UNIX to do all the backend server work. Anyhow, after 30 minutes of discussion, my co-worker finally says to me: “Ooooh, I thought you were saying Yiddix, not UNIX. What’s Yiddix, is that some sore of Yiddish programming language?” I shit you not. This was an actual conversation.
