ConEd can suck it ·
Aug 03, 11:44 AM - Rants

Friggin power is out again at my apartment. That makes is 3 times this year we have lost power for an extended period of time > 3 hours. How can the power go out this many times and of course on the hottest days of the year which means I get to clean out my fridge. Joy.

Of course, I found out I had no power from my sister and from my buildings management who mentioned most of my block had no power yet again. But, when calling the asshats over a ConEd, apparently all is well and there’s nothing that’s been reported. Lovely, just lovely.

Firefly is the bomb ·
Jun 22, 10:54 AM - Me

Ok, so I admit, afer downloading the entire first season of Firefly, I’m am quite sad that they did indeed cancel it. It was a great show and I would have loved to see a second season. Oh well, I guess there’s still Stargate Atlantis, Big Love, Everyone Hates Chris and My Name is Earl. Great, I’m a TV addict with no cable now. Thank god for newsgroups.

Long over-due post ·
Jun 06, 02:20 PM - Trips & Vacations

Ok, it’s been a looooooooooooong time since I last updated but what they hey.

So, M and I took a long overdue vacation last week and drove up to Ithaca for the week. Last week being a 3-day holiday as is, we both took off the remainder 4 days of the week and made a 3 day holiday into a 9 day vacation. Granted we only arrived at my parents on Monday afternoon (had to borrow the car) we still had a nice long vacation.

We both expected to spend most of our time in Ithaca hiking or swimming or being outdoors. What we ended up doing was spending most of our time in the car and hiding out at Wall Mart and other stores avoiding the rain.

For 4 out of the 6 days, it mostly rained. The rest of the time it was overcast and or muggy. 98 degrees and high humidity sucks ass. But, we made the best of it.

We ended up driving about 800+ miles (at $2.99 a gallon! Not $3.47) and explored a good chunk of the Finger Lakes while we were at it.

Here’s a quick recap:

Monday –
Traveled up to Westchester to my parents place, ate at Applebee’s (ok, ok, they’re pretty good now) and went to see X-Men.

Tuesday –
Got up ass early and embarked on our 4 1/2 hour driving trip. Got wonderful driving instructions from mapblast which ended up getting us lost but due to my keen driving skills and knowing that we needed to just head northwest, we made it to Ithaca in the same time. Sadly, most of Tuesday up in Ithaca ranged from 88+ to 98 and lots of humidity. Boy did that suck. However, we soon got the keys to our room at the Edgewood Guest House which had to be the coolest non-hotel to stay at.

First off, the house cost us $50 per night (that’s it, no taxes, nada)
Second, we had in our enormous bathroom a nice Jacuzzi bath. Which was awesome for two people.
Three, wireless Internet and a big ass TV.
Oh and four, free use of everything including the fridge, washer and dryer and a bunch of other things. Tons better than a hotel.

Wednesday –
We seemed to have gotten into a schedule of waking up by 9 or 10 and getting out the door. So, first stop was Buttermilk falls state park where the gorges were just buestiful however, I quickly learned that Ithaca is a magical hill in which you always seem to be going up and never ever down. The 3-4 mile trail we walked on took quite some time considering it was mostly uphill and along slippery wet rocks, but it was fun and far away from city noises. Later that night we visited the Cornell Cascadilla Gorge and ate a wonderful dinner at Maxis Supper Club. Having been to New Orleans a few years back, I have to say I was quite surprised as to how good Maxie’s truly was. Very authentic and everything was spiced well. I think it was also on Wednesday that we ventured to Wall Mart and low and behold, I found the dishes I’ve been looking for. Corelle and only $23 bucks. Plus I picked up some other things while we were there.

Thursday –
Wine touring. I can’t even remember the names of the places we went but, since the weather was so-so in the morning we decided to go on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail and visit several wineries. We first drove through Watkins Glenn about 30 minutes from Ithaca and then up along the West side of Seneca Lake stopping a various wineries. Making our way up to the Northern end of the lake we visited Belhurst Winery and stopped for some lunch by the cool little castle on the lake.

Since by the afternoon the weather turned nasty and we didn’t feel like heading back to Ithaca, we decided instead to head east over to Waterloo and check out the Waterloo outlet center. M picked up a bunch of clothing and after it finally stopped raining we continued on our way. Oh, and the outlet center is in the middle of farmland which after a torrential downpour smells like baby diapers. So yes, the whole place smelled like shit. Yum!

Dinner was fun over at Wingz Over Ithaca with some boneless spicy chicken wings and fries.

Friday – On Friday we headed once again west toward Watkins Glenn but once we arrived there, we headed south to Corning. Why? To visit the Corning Museum of Glass of course. This place has to be one of the coolest single topic museums out there. We got to watch how they do glass blowing, ate a cool salad, picked up some cool glass flowers and overall had a fun time.

But, by 3:30 we had to leave since we had 6pm dinner reservations on the M-V Manhattan. The 3-hour cruise was fun overall even with the overcast skies. It was nice to just relax and cruise around the lake.

Saturday –
Saturday sadly was mostly rained out. Ithaca was celebrating its Ithaca Festival which wasn’t really open at 10:50am, so we decided to check out the Farmers Market and ScienCenter . Sadly we did all that by 1pm and it was still raining so, off to the movie theater to see The Breakup. The movie was a bit lame and overly hyped.

And that well, for the most part was our vacation. I do have some nice pictures of the falls, gorges and other things, which I’ll eventually put up later.

Weird New York ·
May 04, 10:38 AM - NYC

I should really start a website in the fashion of overheard in ny but call it strangely seen in New York. Examples could include: homeless men peeing wildly all-over a sidewalk, pants around his ankles, all the while yelling “I’m the king of the world”. Or, an awkward looking young man in an old suit wearing sneakers in pathmark at the deli counter asking in a funky voice “can I have a quarter pound of your cheapest cheese and cheapest meat?” yeah, these are things you just have to see.

So, my sister will be moving in the next couple of months and, well, I see that as exciting and pleasant. Maybe the two of us will get along more and I’ll get to experiment a bit with my cooking skills.
